One interesting aspect of this image is its caption, An Ocean Drive. It suggests the origin of its present name, and how it came to be. Unlike many of the newer roads laid down in such a hurry in boom-time Miami, busily criss-crossing one another here, there, and all-around, this always-special byway never needed naming. It was simply “an Ocean Drive,” and that said it all.
And, there being only one roadway possibly meriting the name in Miami Beach, it easily became [the] Ocean Drive, or, simply, Ocean Drive.
Hopefully we can all rest easier tonight, with one less impenetrable mystery out there, in the world! Thank you.
